LETTER FROM THE CULTURE EDITOR

Greetings, Patriots!

My name is Kaylyn Barnhart and I am Fourth Estate’s Culture Editor for the Fall 2023 semester. I am originally from the pacific island of Guam, and I am a senior majoring in Communication with a concentration in Journalism.

The beauty of writing stories for the Culture Section is that it exposes us to different perspectives and communities. Mason is recognized as one of the most diverse public universities in the country. There are so many unique stories about our students, faculty and staff that need to be told and to be proud of.

My goals for the Culture Section this semester include covering the lively events happening on campus, featuring individuals, clubs, communities and sharing their original stories. This is important because it allows our readers to become more connected with our Mason community.

As Culture Editor, and as writers of the Culture Section, it is our job to tell these stories, bring them to light and to share them with our community and beyond.

If writers have any ideas for the Culture Section they want to pursue, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I will always be available for questions, discussions and to provide any guidance throughout your creative process.

Fourth Estate is always looking for new writers regardless of their major or experience. Students who are interested in joining the newspaper should email us at eic@gmufourthestate.com for any inquiries.

Let’s bring the unique stories of Mason to the light!

Sincerely,

Kaylyn Barnhart

Culture Editor
