Fourth Estate might have missed some sports coverage in recent weeks because of our own doing, but here are some things to catch up on:
- Mason Madness is coming up on Saturday, Oct. 18, so take a look at our coverage of Atlantic 10 media day for men’s basketball which took place yesterday and Head Coach Paul Hewitt answered questions about the team’s lackluster performance last season and incoming transfer Julian Royal’s impact on the team this season. (Fourth Estate)
- Sophomore golfer Kyle Hart won the Maryland Terrapin Invitational in Rockville, Md. going two under par in the three round tournament. The golf team as a whole placed eighth out of 12 teams. (GoMason)
- Getting excited for the World Series? If you are without a team to root for, consider the Kansas City Royals who have a wealth of Mason ties. Royals General Manager Dayton Moore is one of four Mason graduates in the Kansas City front office. Moore graduated in 1989 with an undergraduate degree in physical education and health as well as a master’s degree in athletic administration. (106.7 The Fan)
- One reason why the men’s soccer team has had such a successful season is because of senior forward Timi Mulgrew. Fourth Estate will have a profile on his Mason career in the upcoming print issue on Oct. 20, but Washington Post soccer/Mason athletics writer Steven Goff had an excellent profile on the challenges Mulgrew has faced to get to this point.
