COVID-19 cases continue to remain low at Mason

As the fall semester carries on, Mason continues to make efforts toward keeping campus COVID-19 cases low. With a mask and vaccination mandate put on campus over the summer and a daily COVID-19 health check, COVID-19 cases continue to remain low.
According to the Mason COVID-19 dashboard, during the third week of classes, from Sept. 12 to Sep 18, seven new students tested positive out of 4,928 students tested. Zero employees tested positive during the third week of classes out of 464 employees tested. This is a 0.1% positivity rate for students and a 0.0% positivity rate for employees.
This is a decline compared to the second week of classes, from Sept. 5 to Sept. 11, where 25 students tested positive out of 5,455 students tested. One employee tested positive out of 283 employees tested. This is a 0.5% positivity rate for students and a 0.4% positivity rate for employees.
Out of 30,528 students, 27,365 students have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, having either received both doses of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or one dose of the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, with a vaccination rate of 93.8%. Out of 6,845 employees, 6,263 are vaccinated, with a vaccination rate of 90.5%
In Fairfax County, 737,467 residents have been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, as of Sept. 22. This is a vaccination rate of 74.0%.
In Virginia, 5,093,688 residents are fully vaccinated, with a vaccination rate of 59.7%.
