With the spring semester here, it’s apparent that many (if not all) of us are feeling overwhelmed with schoolwork and in need of a break. Getting out of the study groups and heading to a concert might be a helpful way for some of us to escape the chaos.
To keep students in the loop and provide some possible options for upcoming study breaks, here’s list of shows happening around Mason during February.
Kid Cudi at Echostage on Feb. 11 (Accessible via the NoMa–Gallaudet U Metro station on the Red Line)
Kid Cudi is known for his hit singles “Day ‘N’ Nite” and “Soundtrack 2 My Life” released back in 2009. His most recent album “Speedin’ Bullet 2 Heaven” presents an interesting combination of hip-hop and rock elements. If students are into something more experimental, they shouldn’t miss this show.

“Summer is Forever II” featuring Best Coast and Wavves on Feb. 16 at the 9:30 Club (Accessible via Metro at the U-Street/African American Civil War Memorial stop on the Green and Yellow lines)
Check out a unique, co-headliner between two of the indie scene’s best bands, Best Coast and Wavves. This show is for Nirvana, Garbage or Joan Jett fans. With two similar yet vocally different artists, it’s sure to be a night full of head-banging and getting down,

The Pixel Empire Tour featuring Madeon at the 9:30 Club on Feb. 21 (Accessible via the U-Street/African American Civil War Memorial stop located on the Green and Yellow lines)
If students are more into dancing than rocking out, this is the event for them. Madeon, a 21-year-old electronic music producer from France, released his hit album “Adventure” in March and has since become known as one of the most inventive and creative DJs in the EDM music scene. Pixel Empire is one of the biggest tours he has taken, so save the date. Madeon is sure to shut down D.C. for the night with this one.

Baio at U-Street Music Hall on Feb. 12 (Accessible via the U-Street/African American Civil War Memorial stop located on the Green and Yellow lines)
Vampire Weekend fans might not be familiar with bassist Christopher Baio’s side project, “Baio.” This album, which Baio is currently taking on tour, is an alternative twist on his band’s signature sound. While the bassist’s new solo work is mostly electronically produced, it hasn’t lost its Vampire Weekend flavor. Baio rarely tours alone, making the event on Feb. 12 a unique one.

Vinyl Theatre & Finish Ticket at U-Street Music Hall on Feb. 23 (Accessible via the U-Street/African American Civil War Memorial stop located on the Green and Yellow lines)
Alternative rock groups Vinyl Theatre and Finish Ticket will be making a stop in D.C. this winter as a part of their collaborative tour. With sounds similar to those of bands like Walk The Moon and The Griswolds, both Vinyl Theatre and Finish Ticket entered stardom by touring with more famous bands like Against The Current, The Mowglis and Twenty One Pilots. If students like any of these bands, they may want to check out Vinyl Theatre and Finish Ticket.

The Flavr Blue at The Black Cat on Feb. 11 (Accessible via the U-Street/African American Civil War Memorial stop located on the Green and Yellow lines)
Hip-hop/R&B trio the Flavr Blue will be taking over The Black Cat in February. This group is not the typical R&B group, though. Their most recent album “Love Notes,” released back in November, has a more ambient tone than more traditional hip-hop music. As an emerging band, the Flavr Blue promise something new for music lovers.
