Welcome Week is an exciting time on George Mason University’s campus. There are numerous events held on campus geared to showcase everything Mason has to offer. So take some time and head out to some of these events.
Friday, August 29
11:00am College Colors Day
Celebrate College Colors Day and kick off another school year of Spirit Fridays and wear your Mason Gear to show your spirit! Come to North Plaza from 11:00am-2:00pm for a chance to win prizes for showing your Mason pride!
12:00pm Got Recovery Kick-Off
Come to East Plaza from 12:00pm-2:00pm and join WAVES, Active Minds, and Student Involvement to welcome new students in recovery. Students can play games, snack, and mingle.
Patriot Pitches Interest Meeting
This info session is for those interested in joining Mason’s only official on-campus co-ed a capella group. Student will have the chance to meet the President, board members, and former members of Patriot Pitches. Held in JC Room A from 12:00pm-3:00pm.
4:30pm Build-a-Burger
Head over to Hanover Hall from 4:30pm-6:30pm for an exciting barbeque to mark the end of the first week of classes! Co-sponsored by the Office of Housing and Residence Life, the Honors College and the Office of Living Learning Community Development, students have the opportunity to meet faculty and staff and socialize with students from other LLC’s.
5:45pm Welcome Week Shabbat
Hillel welcomes all students for their weekly dinner for students can reconnect and meet other students interesting in joining the Hillel community. Held in George’s Restaurant in the JC 3rd floor.
6:00pm “The Amazing Spider-Man 2”
Come to the Johnson Center Cinema to watch a screening of “The Amazing Spider-Man 2” presented by OSI Films.
7:00pm Women’s Soccer vs. East Carolina
Come out and support Mason’s Women’s Soccer team during their game against East Caroline. Held at George Mason Stadium from 7:00pm-9:00pm.
7:30pm Step Expo
Watch the members of Mason’s Black Greek Community showcase the historic art form of stepping. Held in Dewberry Hall from 7:30pm-9:30pm.
9:00pm MP3 Experiment
Have fun meeting new students during Mason’s new event held in North Plaza from 9:00pm-10:30pm.

10:00pm Mason Improv Association Opening Night

Thursday, August 28
9:00am Jump Start Your Job Search
Held in Sub 1 Room 3400 from 9:00am- 5:00pm, this workshop series helps attendees learn how to get jobs and internships. The workshops will cover how to write effective resumes, how to interview, and more.
10:00am Planting the Seeds of Well-Being at Mason
Get introduced to the Mason’s Well-Being Initiative by participating in the day-long planting event in the Reforest Mason site, next to the Rappahannock Parking Deck. All participants will receive a free t-shirt!
11:00am Part Time Job Fair
Held in Dewberry Hall from 11:00am-2:00pm, this fair will give students seeking employment a chance to connect with on-campus employers and other local business looking to hire Mason students. Business casual dress is strongly encouraged.
11:30am Meet ‘n’ Munch Off-Campus Mason Reads Discussion Groups
Off-Campus students have the opportunity to meet and dine with faculty, staff, and patriot leaders to discuss How Full Is Your Bucket? Held in George’s Restaurant in the JC 3rd floor from 11:30am-1:30pm.
1:00pm SAI in Concert
A concert held by the women of Sigma Alpha Iota International Women’s Music Fraternity. The concert will be held in North Plaza form 1:00pm-2:00pm.
1:30pm Make your Mark
Get the chance to meet Active Minds and contribute to their public display about positive mental health and awareness in Sub 1 Quad from 1:30pm-4:00pm.
2:00pm Book Panel: Peter Leeson: Anarchy Unbound
Hear from author, Peter Leeson, chair Peter Boettke, and commenters, Barak Richman and John Hasnas about Leeson’s book, Anarchy Unbound. Held in the JC Cinema from 2:00pm-3:30pm.
3:00pm Press Pass: The Student Media Experience
Meet and mingle with Mason’s Student Media staff at their annual open house while engaging in fun activates and enjoying free food! Open house is form 3:00pm-5:00pm in the Student Media Office Hub 1012.
4:30pm Learn How to Play Quidditch
Head over to Field 5 to learn how to play Qudditch with the Mason Athletics Club Qudditch team!
5:00pm Thursday at the Chapel and Thursday Night Gathering at CCM
Join the Catholic Campus Ministry at Bellarmine Chapel at 5:00pm. Mass dinner will follow.
IV Night- It’s so SWEET to be at Mason!

8:00am Beacon, Eggs, & Cheese: Breakfast for Student Success
Students get the chance to meet faculty and staff involved in Student Success efforts and learn and ask questions about strategies for success, the importance of breakfast, and the upcoming Beacon survey. Held in North Plaza form 8:0am-11:00am.
12:00pm Before I Graduate…
Join WAVES in the North Plaza from 12:00pm-2:00pm to participate in The Before I Graduate Wall.
12:30pm Women and Gender Studies & LGBTQ Resources Pizza Party
New and returning students interested in gender and LGBTQ related issues will be introduced to the Women & Gender Studies Program and LGBTQ Resources. It will be held in the Women and Gender Studies Office (Johnson Center 240) from 12:30pm-2:30pm.
4:00pm LPC & MMP Ice Cream Social Happy Hour

APAC Culture Show
The Asian Pacific American Coalition will be hosting a culture night featuring performances by Korean Student Association, Vietnamese Student Association, Filipino Cultural Association, Kappa Phi Lambda, and Kappa Phi Gamma. The show will be from 6:00pm-8:00pm in the Hub Ballroom.
8:30pm Annual Dodgeball Game
Patriots will join together to attempt to break the Mason Record for the largest game of dodgeball on campus. Check in and registration for the game will begin at 8:30pm at the RAC Field.

Bring canned goods to the North Plaza from 12 p.m.-2 p.m. and get a Mason shirt in exchange! Canned goods as well as other non-perishable items will be donated to a local charity. Some shirts are more valuable than others; shirt values will not exceed three items each.
1 p.m. Transfer Nation
Come to the Ridge from 1 p.m.-3 p.m. for the chance to connect with fellow transfer students and to learn important information about Mason’s policies and resources.
3 p.m. A warm welcome from the Gateway Library at the JC
Meet the librarians at the JC Library Lobby to learn about how they can assist you in your academic goals.
4 p.m. Get the Scoop Sugar
Come to the North Plaza from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. for the chance to converse with members of the Community Adjudication Board (CAB) and get the scoop on the Code of Conduct, alcohol, safety, accountability and the current drug policy at Mason.
Spice and Everything Nice! The Key ingredients to a Healthy Relationship
Stop by the Wellness, Alcohol and Violence Education Service table at North Plaza from 4 p.m.-6 p.m. to decorate a cupcake and learn about the key elements present in a healthy relationship.
