(Evan Parfitt / Fourth Estate)
Returning with a renewed focus
BY EVAN PARFITT, COPY EDITOR
Hey there, everyone!
My name is Evan Parfitt, and I am a junior Forensic Science major. This is my third semester being a part of the team as Fourth Estate’s Copy Editor. I mainly work behind the scenes, ensuring that our stories are accurate to our style guide and in accordance with AP style.
After working on and publishing our print edition toward the end of last year, I am excited to see where we go as a staff for this upcoming semester. Getting to return is a big honor for me and I plan on continuing to help deliver quality news to Mason.
Since middle school, I’ve always had a fascination with the press and what news reporting entails. As the years went on, I joined my high school newspaper, becoming its entertainment editor my sophomore year. I was invited to join a group of students from across the nation at George Mason University’s very own Washington Journalism and Media Conference, giving me a deeper look into the world of reporting.
I have since left behind my passion for being a career journalist, yet journalism has remained a large part of my life. With Fourth Estate, I have had the opportunity to work with some of the most dedicated and driven people at Mason. From attending the College Media Association’s Spring 2026 MediaFest in New York City to making lifelong friends, Fourth Estate has become integral to my college experience.
As for what I want to bring to the table, I can only hope to uphold those same values of what it means to be a journalist. Above all else, I hope Fourth Estate remains the place for your voice to be heard, no matter what major, background or stance you have.
I look forward to what we can accomplish.
