New sports editor hopes to highlight the Mason community this fall semester

BY BRIAN A. HAYUM, SPORTS EDITOR

Hello Mason Nation,

My name is Brian A. Hayum, and I am excited to get to work as the Sports Editor for this fall semester. I joined Fourth Estate last year as a staff writer, covering the men’s basketball team’s historic season. During that time, I learned how much Mason means not only to its student body but also to the city of Fairfax. As the Editor of this section, my goal is to share that sentiment with our readers.

Mason Athletics rightfully has a lot to be proud of. Last year’s combined five regular-season and A-10 titles (across all sports) were the most in school history since joining the conference before the 2013-2014 school year.

While this is a new year filled with new hopes and expectations, our responsibility as a sports section is the same: To capture the moments that bring the Mason community together. I am looking forward to an exciting year of coverage and am eager to highlight the students and athletes who make Mason a special place.

Thank you, and go Patriots!
