Hello Readers, 

My name is Emma G. Schaible, and I am the Opinion Editor for Fourth Estate for the fall 2025 semester. I am a sophomore from New Jersey double majoring in Government and International Politics and Communication. 

I came into Fourth Estate with a lot of ideas, particularly on how to cover our campus’ interactions with government and politics so close to Washington, D.C., but my passion for journalism comes from my belief that news should be informative, accessible and enjoyable. I want to make Fourth Estate an organization students can continue to rely on.

With Mason’s coverage in national media, students’ voices are more important than ever, and I am proud to lead a team that amplifies the diverse perspectives that make this campus unique. While traditional journalism requires writers to maintain objectivity, the opinion section encourages the opposite. It can be a medium to talk about anything you have in mind. I want to  hear all of your hot takes, political perspectives, thoughts on campus life and so much more. Your only limitation is a word count. 

Fourth Estate is always looking for new voices. Whether you are interested in a single article, starting a series, or looking to pick up an existing story, don’t hesitate to reach out!
