Letter From the Culture Editor

Katie Perschau/Fourth Estate

Reflecting the vibrant GMU culture in the Fall 2025 semester

BY KATIE PERSCHAU, CULTURE EDITOR

Hello everyone,

My name is Katie Perschau, and I am thrilled to be the new Culture Editor for the fall 2025 semester! I am a senior studying Communications with a concentration in Journalism. I grew up in Fort Collins, Colorado, but I moved to Fairfax for college.

I first entered the world of journalism in high school when I volunteered as an English translation editor for a small Ukrainian news website. I also had the privilege of working as a writing intern at a nonprofit dedicated to mobilizing the environmental movement.

When I joined the Fourth Estate last year, I fell in love with writing for the culture section. By attending performances and interviewing students, I got to know Mason and the surrounding area in a new way.

As the new culture editor, I promise to help publish vibrant stories that report on the people, clubs, and events at Mason and in the surrounding area.

Culture is the art we make, the food we eat and the stories we tell. The culture section of Fourth Estate is the place to write about everything that shapes who we are and what makes our school unique. Whether you discovered a new study spot in town, attended one of the school’s many music or theater performances or noticed new fashion trends on campus, the story has a place here.

I look forward to the semester ahead!

Sincerely,
Katie Perschau, Culture Editor
