While many college students were busy prepping for their Halloween festivities on October 31, the Patriots Photography Society, led by President Jasia Sanjana and Vice President Regan Malone, held a spooky photoshoot in the MIX Media Lab from 4:30 to 8 p.m.

Around 36 students attended throughout the evening, ranging from members of the Cosplay Club at Mason to the unofficial GMU Lightsaber Arts Club. Each person was given the chance to do their favorite pose, stance or signature move while being photographed.

Students also had the opportunity to take photographs and gain critical hands-on experience for the future. Not everyone owned a digital camera, and some students preferred using their smartphones.

Some students were skilled at photograph taking, and some had taken photos for quite some time. Despite this, all experience levels were welcomed, with students from many different majors participating, including Business, Information Technology, Chemistry and Art/Visual Tech majors.

This event brought a range of costumes with each student showcasing their skills and creativity with their own unique designs. Some students had costumes with lightsabers and robes, while others showed up dressed as their favorite cartoon or anime character.

With huge smiles on their faces, everyone was eager to take professional photos in their favorite costumes.

Multiple people from different clubs on campus showed up and planned photo shoots for the future, discussing dates and locations. The event was crucial for building a network of clubs on campus and maintaining relationships already established by Patriots Photography Society, while also creating new connections.

Patriots Photography Society has photoshoots every other Friday at the MIX Media Lab on the first floor of Horizon Hall. Their mission is to build a creative, inclusive community where students of all skill levels can explore, practice and share the art of photography.

They aim to capture campus life, celebrate visual storytelling, and support each other’s growth through workshops, photo walks, collaborative projects and good vibes.

Whether you shoot on a phone or a DSLR camera — all are welcome.
