Former Mason soccer player and alumnus Taylor Washington was nominated for the MLS Humanitarian of the Year award Oct. 19.

He was nominated for his contributions to the community, which include visiting a boy with brain cancer named Dominic Liples and taking part in a program to help children with reading and writing.

Washington, a member of the class of 2015, was drafted by the Philadelphia Union with the 23rd overall pick in the 2016 draft.

Washington played defense for the Patriots during his time at Mason, which began when he transferred from Boston University after his freshman year.
