BREAKING: Johnson Center evacuated due to bomb threat

The Johnson Center has been closed due to a bomb threat, which university police are currently investigating. They have asked people to vacate the building and remain away from the area. No further information has been released.

Fourth Estate will continue to publish updates as they come in.

UPDATE 4:07 p.m.

The following Mason Alert was sent to students:

The Johnson Center is closed until further notice to allow University Police to investigate a suspicious call regarding a potential bomb threat. Please leave the Johnson Center and remain away from the area.  This threat has not been confirmed.  Out of an abundance of caution an investigation is being conducted in the interest of public safety.  Please follow the direction of law enforcement personnel.

Classes scheduled in the Johnson Center will be relocated if possible; please contact your instructor for additional information.  Administrative offices in the Johnson Center are closed until further notice.

More information about this situation will be provided as soon as it becomes available.

UPDATE 5:35 p.m.

A second Mason Alert was sent to students:

The University Police investigation at the Johnson Center is ongoing and may extend until later this evening.

Please remain away from the area until further notice.  Additional information will be provide as it becomes available.  Thank you for your patience. 

UPDATE 7:20 p.m.

A final Mason Alert from University Police:

University Police have concluded their investigation at the Johnson Center and no threat was found.  Due to the length of this investigation and disruption to Johnson Center operations, the Johnson Center will remain closed the rest of today, Thursday, October 13th.

University classes and events in the Johnson Center are postponed or cancelled. Please check with your instructor, the event coordinator, event website, or University Events Management at http://events.gmu.edu for more information. Students and faculty are encouraged to use the HUB, SUB I, or Fenwick Library to meet or study.

All classes, administrative offices, events, and activities in the Johnson Center will resume as scheduled on Friday, October 14th.
