Why does it always seem that hunger rears its ugly head right when you’re in the the biggest hurry? Or the moment you’re farthest from a dining hall or in the middle of a three-hour lecture with no end in sight? Not only are you hungry, you’re also tired and grumpy. What you need is protein — and fast.

To keep the hunger at bay, we put together a quick and easy recipe for something we like to call Patriot Power Trail Mix. It’s tasty, healthy and packed with treats that will keep you going all day, even if you’re walking all the way from West Campus.

To make Patriot Power Trail Mix, you will need:

  • 2 cups of nuts (We chose honey roasted pecans and unsalted cashews, 1 cup each.)
  • 1 cup of breakfast cereal (We chose the “protein” variety of Cheerios.)
  • 1 cup of raisins or dried cranberries
  • 1/2 cup of chocolate pieces (We chose green and gold M&Ms for extra spirit.)

These ingredients are easiest to find in the bulk section of the grocery store and cost us less than $5 total.

Once you have all the ingredients on hand, all you need to do is mix everything together. Store in an airtight container to keep fresh, and enjoy.
